We also hope our students are reading at home so they can achieve their quarterly AR reading Goal. Goals need to be completed in 3 weeks so they should be at 70% to be on track. Please ask your child how he/she is doing on his/her goal. We have a great activity planned for those who make it and we want everyone to be able to participate! Febraury reading calendars are due on Monday. March calendars were sent home today. This is the last month of the Book It incentive program.

All students should have multiplication facts mastered by Spring Break. Congratulations to Amelia, Mason, and Naomi for achieving this goal! Study, study, study!

Many of our students are in dire need of dry erase markers and erasers. Please check with you child to see what supplies your child needs and send them to school. It is very frustrating when our students don't have the materials they need to be successful.

We are quickly approaching the halfway point of our school year. We really want all of our students to be eligible for all 8 rodeo events. In order to do this, each student needs to have earned 200 AR points. For those that already have 100 points or more, we are confident you will make it. If your child is behind, please pick up the reading at home so your child isn't sad on rodeo day.

December 13

We will be celebrating Christmas in our classrooms on Friday, the 20th. All students should have brought home a sticker letting  you know what item we need him/her to bring plus each student is to bring their own drink. We are eating tacos in the room that day. If you are unable to provide the item, PLEASE let us know so we can be sure to get it!

We hope our students will get some reading done over the holidays. When they return in January, they need to have 80% of their AR goal completed. We will also need their December reading calendars when they return. If they have the goal completed before the 20th, please send them to school. We are very proud of our students who have already accomplished their AR reading goal for the quarter!

A big hooray to Hailey, Owen, and Seth for staying the course and passing addition facts! Jacquline, Warren, Jasmine, Aden, Ciris and Amelia are right on schedule with passing subtraction facts. Please remember that if your child has not passed addition and subtraction by next week, they are falling behind their peers. With a little practice nightly at home, your child could quickly master these and find confidence as our math concepts get more difficult.

Math fluency is so important! If you ask an upper level teacher want is the number one skill they want their students to come with it is almost always math fluency. Without it, kids really do struggle as the skills get more difficult. With that being said, PLEASE help your child learn his/her math facts! If you have internet at home, have your child do at least 2 xtramath lessons a night. If this is done nightly, he/she is sure to improve! We are looking forward to our Halloween parties next week. Thank you in advance to the parents that have volunteered to organize and hosts these for us. We want to remind our students that they may wear their costumes to school, but they need to leave the masks and face paint off for the day as we still have learning taking place in the mornings as our parties are in the afternoon.

October 31st marks the end of the quarter as well as the end of the month. We need all reading calendars returned to school no later than Monday, Nov. 4th. We will send home new calendars Thursday. Many of our students need new pencils and possibly dry erase markers. Check with your child to see how his/her school supplies are doing. We will be sending out conference notices next week so be on the look out for those in the folders.

Students should mastery addition facts by next week. If not, they are falling behind and it gets more and more difficult to catch up as the year progresses. PLEASE study these nightly with your student! We recommend 10 minutes a night, but if your child is behind, it may take more. Congratulations to Karina for passing addition fact this week!

October 11, 2013

We have come to the end of our unit in reading so next week there will be no new spelling words as we will be taking the unit test and working on our writing. Please watch for the students to bring home their essays for some help editing their paragraphs. This does not mean check for periods and misspellings only. Those are important. But students really need help and guidance with sentences, voice and word choice. There are examples of these on their writing folders.

We hope all of our students are reading nightly and marking their calendars. We have some students that have earned the right to participate in our rodeo events by earning a buckle into the various clubs. Congratulations to Kaira, Amelia, Riggen, Paizley, Mikayla D., Jordan, Jacquline, Mekena, Sydney, and Kylynn for getting 25 points.
